Motherhood Session
As a parent, I understand the importance of being in photos. We get so caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of school, activities, family events, and even just the quiet moments spent with your family. We pull out our phones constantly, take quick snaps of an activity or funny moment, selfies in our pajamas, or short videos of a memorable moment. It is very seldom that we are in these photos with our children.
When Gayathri reached out wanting to do a photo session with her baby boy in Charlotte, I was so excited. Not only that, but she wanted to include her mother in several photos and it was so beautiful to see the bond between the generations. Our babies grow so quickly within that first year and taking time to capture their tiny toes and smiles is so important.
It was an amazingly windy day when we arrived at our location but we made the most of it. I love the texture and depth that tall grass and wind can add to any photo. Add in the beautiful connections and we created some unforgettable memories that day.
With little babies, it can often be nerve wracking to think about getting photos taken between naps, feeding, and driving to and from the session. Having three little ones myself, I one hundred percent understand this. It is why I build in plenty of time into my sessions. I don’t believe in having several different time options for you to choose from. That is a stress on its own! Thirty minute session? Well, it will be nice and short and fit in between naps and feeding but what if baby spits up or toddlers are not listening and we run out of time? One hour session? Could be a perfect balance but what if we are just getting in to a groove or baby needs an outfit change and all of a sudden our time is up? This is why I offer up to two hours in my family sessions. It gives us plenty of time for outfit changes, diaper changes, toddlers who are slow to warm, parents who are slow to warm, weather changes, moving around within the location for a variety of photos, and having a variety of portraits versus documentary or lifestyle photos.
Many people also worry about what to wear for their photo session. You are investing in your memories and yourselves. However, once you are at the session you are going to be caught up in the interactions and environment. All this to say, don’t stress about your outfit! One of the main reasons people don’t book a photo session is because the process of choosing and coordinating outfits can be overwhelming. As part of my process, I am there every step of the way to help plan the session. Remember that it is better to wear something that you are comfortable and feel good in rather than a new outfit that will make you fidget or adjust the whole session.
